GOD’S BIG WORDS –#4

Hello sisters!

God has blessed us with another day of life.  Let us be thankful!  Today we will look at one word to study—Regeneration.

Regeneration

This word means to be reborn, new birth.  Ye which have followed me in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matt 19:28.  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior. Titus 3:5.  This word regeneration is often mistranslated by religious people, but it’s actually simple.  Spiritual renewal, the new birth—that he might sanctify and cleanse it (the church) with the washing of water by the word. Eph 5:26.  The new birth and regeneration do not represent different stages in a spiritual experience.  They refer to the same event viewed from different aspects.  The new birth stresses spiritual life in contrast with spiritual death; regeneration stresses the new state of things in contrast with the old.

I often think of Jesus talking to Nicodemus about the new birth in John 3.  Jesus speaks figuratively when He says a man must be born again.  But later, as Jesus is about to ascend to His Father, with His very last words on earth, He drops the figure and says plainly, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved…” Mark 16:15-16.  Then on Pentecost Peter doesn’t say be born again—he says repent and be baptized every one of you!  Regeneration!
