GOD’S BIG WORDS –#2

Good morning!  Today we will continue our study of God’s Big Words.  If we are to understand what God wants us to do to obey and how to appreciate that salvation, we need to know what these amazing words mean.  Let’s consider Redemption and Sanctification:

Redemption

This is the act of being bought back as a slave with a view of freedom; to release by paying a ransom price; liberation.  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. Eph 1:7.  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Col. 1:14.  Imagine being kidnapped.  You must depend on someone caring enough for you to pay the ransom to get you back.  Jesus paid our ransom with His life.

Sanctification

This word means set apart by God for a divine purpose, His purpose.  It includes a separation of the believer from evil things and ways.  You are made holy.  This cannot be transferred or imputed; it is an individual possession, built up, little by little as the result of obedience to the Word of God and following the example of Christ.  Sanctify them through thy truth. John 17:17.  Holy, saint, and sanctify all come from the same root.  Let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Cor 7:1.  We must see ourselves as partakers of the divine nature, set apart to do God’s will. 2 Peter 1:3-4.
