Every morning, going to work, I pass a very large cemetery in Atlanta. There on the sloping hill sit hundreds of tombstones, all giving honor to the person who was laid to rest there. I think about all of these people. Who were they, what were their lives like? I know that some were celebrities, rich and influential people. I wonder, were they prepared to meet Jesus? Was death a sudden surprise, or did they face it with an illness?
Every time I see it, I am reminded that this too will be me one day (somewhere in Texas I hope); my soul waiting for that judgement day when “…EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME (JESUS), AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL CONFESS TO GOD.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. (Romans 14:11-12).
I don’t know if the people in the cemetery were ready or not. Now, they wait in the hadean realm for that judgement day.
ARE YOU READY?
When my son Benjamin was young, his favorite song was “Are You Ready For the Judgement Day”. When we would sing it in worship, he would look around and point at people as we sang, “Are you ready?” It was comical, but also sobering….are we ready?
I want Jesus to welcome me in when that day comes. How awful it would be to hear “depart from me, I never knew you.” Are YOU prepared to meet Him? Will He know you when you come before HIm in that day?
God has revealed Himself in His Word and is waiting for us to find Him there. Know Him through Bible Study, talk to Him through prayer. That is what a relationship is all about and He will then say, “Enter into the joy of your Lord” (Matt. 25:21).
EVERY TIME I SEE IT, I am reminded of the brevity of life and judgement to come. Let’s get Ready!!
