An Open Letter to My Married Girlfriends

Your husband is NOT your child, so don’t talk to him and treat him as if he is. He is your love, your partner for life, your equal and needs to be treated as such. God commands us to respect our husband (Eph 5:33). God has given him the leadership role in the marriage while loving His wife enough to consider her in all his decisions (Eph. 5:28).

Recently, I have been noticing many FB posts about husbands and men that concern me. The posts are usually something like “my husband is my other child” or “husbands are what cause wives stress”. I have also seen many posts about “what kind of man a woman deserves”.

If you want your husband to “step up to the plate” and help around the house or be a better provider or leader, how about giving him respect instead of criticism. I have seen women talk to and about their husband as if he were a child.

So what kind of woman (wife) does a man (husband) deserve?

  • One who respects him
  • One who loves him unconditionally
  • One who is honest with him
  • One who trusts him
  • One who is quick to forgive
  • One who respects and fulfills his natural needs
  • One who does not criticize or humiliate him in public
  • One who makes him feel needed and wanted

Ladies, yes we want a man who will love us and be the man that we want him to be, but we need to be the woman (wife) that he is wanting us to be. You can’t change him, but you can change your attitude toward him. You might be surprised with how he may change once he feels more respected.
