Think about all of the things the mind of Christ is:  selfless, loving, sacrificial, etc.

You could say He has a “one-track mind”, “peace of mind”, “healthy state of mind”, “us on His mind.”  Paul tells us that we have the mind of Christ, so we should study to find out what that is and what that means for our daily lives.

We have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:16

This could mean 2 things:

  1. The scriptures tell us Christ’s mind as He walked on this earth.  What He said and did show us His mind.  “We HAVE the mind of Christ.”
  2. Our minds should be like Christ’s.  We wear His name as Christians, but is our mind like Christ’s? “WE have the mind of Christ.”

We need to believe what Jesus believes. He saw the truth.

Do we always see the Truth?

John 17:17 God’s word IS truth!

In His prayer for the Apostles, Jesus asks God to sanctify (set them apart) by what?_______________________________________________________________

We need to love who and what Jesus loves.

How can we partake of the “mind of Christ”?

We acquire knowledge of His mind

  1. His feelings

John 13:34 “as I have loved you”

John 15:12 “as I have loved you”

    2. His Desires

Matt. 9:13 I desire mercy and not sacrifice

    3. His Purposes

Luke 19:10 came to seek and save the lost

    4. His Plans

John 14:2-3 “I go and prepare a place for you”

    We do His will

    John 15:14

    John 14:15

How does having the Mind of Christ make us different from worldly people?

                       We can know God

                       We have good judgment

                       We Walk by the spirit

Christ gave the “mind of Christ” to apostles through His spirit.

    John 17:8

What had Christ given to them?___________________________________________

Giving them this was giving them His mind, His will.

How to obtain the mind of Christ

As certain silk worms have their silk colored by the leaves on which they feed, so, if we were to feed on Christ, and nothing else but Christ, we should become pure, holy, lowly, meek, gentle, humble; in a word, we should be perfect even as He is. What wonderful meat this must be! O my brethren, if you have ever tried the flesh and blood of Jesus as your soul’s diet, you will know that I am not speaking vain words! There is no such sustenance for faith, love, patience, joy, as living daily upon Jesus, our Savior. You who have never tasted of this heavenly bread, had better listen to the word,
“O taste and see that the Lord is good!”

    (C. H. Spurgeon, Biblical Illustrator, Philp. 2:5 E-Sword)

The following is from Biblical Illustrator and sums up the mind of Christ quit well.

    Christ’s was—

    I. A fearless mind. He braved

    1. Public opinion.

    2. Persecution.

    3. Death.

II. A self-denying mind: and such in us will enable us, like Him, to forego

    1. Present advantage for the good of others.

    2. Popularity for the sake of principle.

    3. Personal claims, profit and pleasure for usefulness.

III. A laborious mind. Christ was ever thinking, planning, devising for others.

IV. A broadly sympathetic mind. Helpfulness should be united with tenderness.

    V. A patient mind. How He waited those thirty years; how He bore with the      ignorance of His disciples, and the malignity of His murderers.

VI. A hopeful mind. He saw beyond the cross. “He saw of the travail of His soul and was satisfied.”

    (H. B. Rawnsley, Biblical Illustrator, Philippians 2:5-11, E-Sword.)

Christ’s mind is wise, humble and heavenly focused.  We should have these same characteristics
We should desire what He desires, what motivates Him should motivate us.
We can never have the right views unless we take His point of view!

Paul gives the Philippian Christians a great glimpse of the mind of Christ.
